Preschool MissionOur Mission is the direction and development of our preschool programs. Our first priority is our children. We provide a variety of developmentally appropriate opportunities which allow each child to grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Our staff encourages children to explore and grow in a nurturing environment designed for the preschool child. Program Information Our goal is to provide a fun, successful preschool learning experience that develops a foundation for future learning. Various instructional methods and developmentally appropriate activities are used to address students' individual learning styles and different rates of development. To maintain current knowledge of best practices in early childhood education, our teaching staff participates in ongoing continuing education opportunities each year. Faith Community Preschool is licensed by the state of Michigan, Department of Human Services. Our teacher/director, Kim Richmond has a Master's degree in Education, Special Education and has a current Michigan teaching certificate. Over the past 10 years, Kim has served as a teacher, director, volunteer board member, and/or a parent of children in the Faith Community Preschool program. Daily Schedule Each class is based on a daily schedule that promotes security, confidence, independence, and the ability to explore and learn. Each child is encouraged to discover and create, and is allowed the freedom to develop at his or her own pace. We strive for a balance between teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. Our typical daily schedule includes Welcome Activities, Circle Time, Learning Centers, Small Group and Child Directed Activities, Hand Washing, Snack, Art Activities, Teacher Directed Activities, Large Motor Activities, Story Time, Clean Up, Review, and Preparation for Departure. We also offer a parent/child Little Learners program for 2-year-olds, which has ongoing registration for the current school year. 3 YEAR-OLD PROGRAMOur 3-year-old program emphasizes socialization and discovery. Some of the things our students experience are peer interaction, independence, making choices, circle time, taking turns, following directions, art activities, being part of a group, and helping with clean up. Our daily routine creates a comfortable, predictable environment for our students to explore and learn. Children develop socialization skills and build relationships through participation in games, activities and during play. We strive to develop happy, eager-to-learn students. Our teaching staff is interested in each child as an individual learner. Since children develop at different rates and have individual learning styles, materials are presented using a variety of educational approaches and developmentally appropriate activities. Our program includes structured and unstructured play and discovery time, and individual, small group and large group activities. Lessons and activities are designed to promote language and literacy, math, science, creative art, music, movement, fine motor, and large motor development. This class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. 4 YEAR OLD-PROGRAMThe 4-year-old program emphasizes kindergarten readiness and exploration. This program is designed to expand on the skills established in our 3-year-old program including socialization, independence, and group participation, and to prepare student for future elementary school experiences. Our engaging educational atmosphere is rich with discovery and possibility. Our goal is to encourage and challenge our students to become independent, enthusiastic learners. We use a variety of instructional methods and developmentally appropriate activities to meet the varying cognitive, social and emotional needs of each individual child. To help prepare our students for upcoming kindergarten experiences, language and literacy activities further emphasize letter/sound relationships and are designed to promote reading readiness and encourage self expression. As fine motor skills develop, art activities become more complex. Quantitative, comparative, and more detailed concepts are introduced as students demonstrate increased memory and attention skills in the 4-year-old program. This class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. LITTLE LEARNERS (2 YEAR-OLD) PROGRAM This weekly parent/child class is designed for the young child.
