MUSINGS July 2008

What is God calling Faith Community to do at this point in our history? Who is God calling us to be? These are the primary questions that the Mission Study Committee will be addressing as they look at our church's history, our community, and our membership.

At last spring's session retreat, the session decided to begin a Mission Study of our congregation. This means that we will stop to look at who we are, what our surrounding community is like, what our strengths and weaknesses are, and what God wants us to do in the years ahead.

The committee is currently made up of Mike Everett, Tammy Johnson, Jeff Mills, Karl Tarkanyi, and Connie Isbell. They would be interested in having a couple of more people join them. The Committee has met with Rev. Phil Reed, who works with all of the churches in the Presbytery who are doing mission studies. He was very helpful and got the committee off to a good start. They have already begun their work by looking at where our congregation has been with regards to membership, worship and Sunday school attendance, giving, and involvement in the community.

The next phase will look at what our community is like and how it has changed. What are the needs in our area and what are our concerns? Finally the committee will set up several opportunities for the congregation to give feedback on what we do very well, what we need to strengthen, and what direction our mission should take.
